Ben’s primary focus is on family law, where he has negotiated many difficult settlements and represented clients in both the Provincial Court of British Columbia and Supreme Court of British Columbia, including at trial when compromise could not be reached. He has addressed a full range of family law issues such as intense matters of family violence, child and spousal support awards, and dividing family property.
Ben has also practiced in civil litigation, with a focus on spouses or children contesting wills.
Ben had a former career as a high school teacher; he has drawn from that background to successfully coach and prepare many clients for court who could not afford to pay full legal fees to be represented by a lawyer or wanted to save on the costs of disputes.
Ben obtained both his Bachelor of Arts with major in History and J.D. from the University of British Columbia. After law school, Ben worked at a judicial externship program, assisting provincial court judges with legal research and decision writing.
Ben grew up on Saltspring Island, B.C. He enjoys playing piano or reading literature in his quiet time and of course spending time with his family.
