Alexandra Watkins, Associate Lawyer

Alex was born and raised in Maple Ridge. She pursued her Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of the Fraser Valley before moving to Ontario to earn her law degree at the University of Toronto in 2015. Alex then worked as an articled student and associate lawyer in the family law division of a busy boutique firm on Toronto’s Bay Street before returning to BC in 2017. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2016, and to the BC bar in 2017.

Alex has a keen interest in family law. She spent a year volunteering with Pro Bono Students Canada’s Family Court Support Program, where she assisted survivors of domestic violence in navigating the legal system. She also spent a semester as a student caseworker in the University of Toronto’s family law clinic, advocating on behalf of low-income clients. Due to her time working in both Bay Street and low-income contexts, Alex has experience with the full spectrum of issues faced by separating families, including complex high-net-worth property disputes, child and spousal support claims, and parenting issues. She is a strong advocate who works hard to defend her clients’ rights, and to find efficient and cost-effective strategies for resolving their disputes - whether it calls for negotiating a separation agreement, attending mediation, or taking the matter to court.

In her spare time, Alex enjoys bowling (badly), ambitious cooking projects, and reading fiction - she counts John Irving, Italo Calvino, and Jeffrey Eugenides among her favourites.
